[LogBook] Back to l’Estartit – Catalonia – Spain

Ahoy Sailors & Mermaids! A few years ago, I was diving in Spain for the 1st time, and I am really glad to say, that I’m back to l’Estartit!.. And that it’s the perfect occasion to book 3 dives around the Medes Islands! Ready? Let’s dive!

# Farrenelles, Mediterranean Sea

Water Temperature: 20°
Sightings: Mediterranean Moray, Dusky Grouper, Common Dentex, school of Barracuda and Bogue, Corb, Zebra Sea Bream, Swallowtail Sea Perch, Damselfish, and a Dotted Sea Slug!
Notes: A really nice spot with strong currents! The school of fishes are impressive, and the numerous Dusky Groupers as well. If you take some time to have a good look, you will find a lot of interesting things hidden on the rocks…

#Dofí Norte, Mediterranean Sea

Water Temperature: 20°
Sightings: Huge Dusky Grouper, Hermit Crab, Dotted Sea Slug (Many!), Pink Flabellina, Smooth Starfish…
Notes: This spot is absolutely great, especially if you like caves! As they are quite long and completely dark you will need a torch to see all these incredible colours, but also the big and tiny Dotted Sea Slugs in there and find the beautiful Hermit Crab! Don’t be surprised by the giant Dusky Groupers swimming next to you or resting close to the entrance. And depending on where you are coming from (I chose to do the short loop), you will also find the cutest Dolphin ever…

#La Pota Del Llop, Mediterranean Sea

Water Temperature: 19°
Sightings: Dusky Grouper (A lot!), 2 Red Scorpionfish, Gilthead Sea Bream, Two-Banded Sea Bream, Swallowtail Sea Perch, Damselfish, Pink Flabellina…
Notes: Another great spot to admire Violescent Sea Whip (also called Chameleon Sea Fan), and many Pink Flabellinas! Once again, you will find a lot of huge Dusky Groupers, and if you are lucky, you might see one being cleaned up! There is one named Nemo around here, and you will understand why after a good look!

I can totally recommend the diving center La Sirena, located right in front of the harbour. Their facilities and boats are great, and the huge plus is definitely the elevator at the back of the boat! The staff is lovely, and they will offer to book a room for you if needed! They have a partnership with the Flamingo hotel, which serves a delicious buffet for lunch and dinner (perfect to warm up after 2 long dives). Estartit Catalonia Spain Estartit Catalonia Spain

This is the end of this logbook at l’Estartit! If you liked it please feel free to let me know in a comment! Sea you soon for more bubbles!

Sympa à faire comme petit trip, pas eu l’occasion encore… Tes photos en lumière naturelle sont superbes, j’adore celle du mérou avec les gorgones ! Les corbs rendent vraiment bien comme ça aussi… Bravo 😉
